NC Seller/Server Alcohol Training

This is a self-paced course available 24/7 and is offered in English and Spanish.

This course consists of 4 modules outlined below:

Module 1: North Carolina ABC Beverage Seller-Server Training Overview
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

  • Correctly define terms related to the sale or serving of alcohol in the state of North Carolina.
  • Describe the purpose, goals, and rules for seller-server training and certification.
  • State the intent of North Carolina laws relating to alcohol sales to minors and intoxicated persons.

Module 2: Underage Persons and Alcohol Sales
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

  • Determine whether a sale of alcohol is legal or illegal with regards to an underage person in any given situation.
  • Use observations to detect when an underage person is attempting to purchase alcohol.
  • Correctly identify whether an Identification (ID) is valid and proper for purposes of establishing age.
  • Determine appropriate intervention techniques in regards to an underage person attempting to purchase alcohol in a variety of situations.

Module 3: Intoxicated People and Alcohol Sales
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

  • Describe how seller-servers may be responsible for the acts of their customers (Dram Shop Act).
  • Determine whether a sale of alcohol is legal or illegal with regards to an intoxicated person in a variety of different situations.
  • Define blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and list factors that affect BAC in individuals.
  • Use observations to detect if a person is intoxicated.
  • Apply appropriate intervention techniques for preventing sales to  intoxicated persons in a variety of circumstances.

Module 4: Other Permits
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

  • Correctly describe the rules for serving alcohol in private club.
